History

The society was formed in approximately 1997 when the then landlord of the Rope and Anchor approached the current secretary with a view to establishing a pub based society with the aim of creating a fun, friendly and welcoming society that would encourage players of all ages and ability to come along for a great day out in the local area.

 

In the early days we started small with only 2 or 3 events per year with a limited number of members but we have now established ourselves as a major society with 40 + members and 6 events per year all of which are really well supported.

 

The society prides itself on its warm and friendly approach to both existing and new members and our numbers continue to grow each year.

 

The emphasis is very much on members enjoying a great day out with fabulous people but don't be fooled, competition is fierce with players of all abilities battling it out to claim one of our prestigious trophies coupled with an array of great prizes  

 

Over the years we have played at a variety of great courses all within easy drive of Warrington and have included such venues as:

 

Vale of Llangollen

Hill Valley

Shrigley Hall

Portal

Shaw Hill

Formby Hall and many others................................

 

In recent years we have started to play matches against other societies with the introduction of the Rope/Mitre challenge in 2014 being the first of what we hope to be many more in years to come.

 

We are constantly looking at ways to improve and grow our society with the launch of this website in 2016 being one of them. In 2018 we expanded our online profile to cover Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
